From executive producer of IMRU, one of the longest running gay and lesbian radio programs in Southern California, to co-host of the 2007 broadcast of the Christopher Street Pride Parade, Rita Gonzales has been a familiar face and voice in the LGBT community for over two decades. Rita began her activism with GLLU, Gay and Lesbian Latinos Unidos. She was president of GLLU, the oldest LGBT Latino organization in Southern California, in 1986. Today she is the chair of the board of directors of Bienestar Health Services.
Over the years, Rita has served on several boards, including Connexxus and the One National Gay and Lesbian Archives. She has also served on the advisory board for Women On A Roll. For OUTFEST, Rita served on the committee that established Fusion, the first people of color film festival.
Rita began her affiliation with radio in 1986 with the show "Radio GLLU" on KPFK. Radio GLLU was a pioneering LGBT Latino radio program. She was co-host and editor of that show for 11 years. In 1995, the show was reformatted into IMRU where she continues to work one of the co-hosts and various other technical tasks. |
